Tell us about Straight Six. With Flemington Racecourse down the road, Straight Six opened in early 2017, drawing inspiration from all things horse-racing. With burgers named after previous Melbourne Cup winners – Makybe Diva, Pharlap – we aim to create an experience so good that you’d bet your house on it.

How do you tackle the challenge of competing in a food hub like Melbourne? We make a lot of our ingredients in-house, this way they’re unique and super fresh.

What is the most ordered burger? A lot of our customers head straight for the Think Big: double patty, double cheese, maple bacon, Straight Six sauce, jalapenos and onion. Think Big won the Melbourne Cup twice, both in ’74 and ’75. He doubled up, and so do most of our customers. It’s the clear winner.

Share with us some exciting Straight Six news. We recently launched our new waffle menu with a proprietary recipe that we had to source interstate. We offer waffles with soft serve and nuts, but also with fried chicken. It’s a great choice if you want to try something other than burgers.

What are you most proud of at Straight Six? We only launched a couple of months ago but we’ve been incredibly humbled by the response from the locals. We have regulars who we love seeing and there have been a few days when we’ve entirely sold out of burgers.
