Beat the heat because Melbourne’s own metropolitan surf park, URBNSURF, is now open

Surf’s up!

Victorian surfers often dream of perfect conditions but wave quality is always inconsistent. For beginners, it’s all about having fun and improving as quickly as possible, which can be difficult when facing crowded lineups, rips, cold water and other marine hazards.

These realities can dampen the motivation to surf regularly, but URBNSURF is helping to keep spirits high post-lockdown by providing perfect waves in a safe, controlled environment.

Located in Tullamarine, the park is fast becoming the ultimate destination for surfers, families, and beachgoers. And now that restrictions have eased, Melburnians can visit URBNSURF to ride, learn and explore Australia’s first surf park.

Using next-gen technology, the park’s two-hectare lagoon produces ocean-like waves to suit all ages and abilities, from cruisy pointbreak surf for longboarders and weekend warriors, up to two-metre-high heaving barrels for the experienced surfers and bodyboarders.

URBNSURF Melbourne also features a Surf Academy for lessons and training, board and wetsuit hire, a surf shop stocking all the essentials, and gorgeous lagoon-side amenities with incredible views of the action – including hot tubs, day beds and landscaped lawns.

Restaurant Three Blue Ducks will also open up at URBNSURF before Christmas, with plenty of fresh, healthy and delicious options on the menu. Led by Masterchef judge Andy Allen and celebrity chefs Mark LaBrooy and Darren Robertson, the restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks daily, and takeaway options are also available so you can refuel while watching the waves.

“Following an extended period of closure due to coronavirus, we’re excited to welcome Victorians from across the state for some much-needed stress relief and surf time in our lagoon,” said URBNSURF Group CEO Damon Tudor.

“After what has been a challenging year, we’re stoked to provide surfers, families, and friends with the opportunity to get outdoors, reconnect, and enjoy perfect waves in a COVID-safe environment.”
