Hello. Who are we speaking with and what are you doing at AWME 2015?
Hello. I’m Thomas Oliver and I’ll be performing solo on the APRA AMCOS stage at Ding Dong, as part of a show with Kingfisha and OKA.
What do you think is unique about AWME and its role in cultivating Australian music?
AWME provides a unique opportunity because it has a specific intention, which is to expose Australasian music to the attending delegates. It gives artists a chance to engage directly with the international industry; a chance that may be difficult to come by otherwise.
What can punters expect from your show at AWME?
I will be bringing a Weissenborn (acoustic lap-slide guitar) and an acoustic guitar. I will perform solo, but parts of my set involve a looper pedal, some sample-triggering with my foot, and using the body of my Weissenborn to create various percussive sounds.
If a movie was being set in AWME 2015, what would be the plot?
The movie is called A Mission To Music and the plot is that a hand-picked selection of musicians from across Australia and New Zealand are brought together to perform to several international ‘delegates’. The musicians are under the impression that they are performing with the intention of making music industry contacts and furthering their careers through new touring opportunities and record label relationships. However, the delegates are not from the music industry at all; they are secretly working for NASA and Richard Branson and are on a quest to find the best three musicians they can, to occupy the need for exemplary musicians in the first ever settlement on Mars.
THOMAS OLIVER will be performing at AWME, which goes down from Thursday November 12 – Saturday November 14. He’ll be joined by Kingfisha and Oka on Saturday November 14 from 8.30pm at Ding Dong Lounge.
