When did you first start making music and what led you there? I played a couple of instruments in school and started making music when I was about 18. My friends and I were into writing rap, and beat making came shortly after.
Tell us about your debut beat tape Act I. I love film music and I made these tracks while in an obsession with thriller scores from Bernard Herrmann, like Cape Fear, Vertigo, Psycho etc. Act I has a dark and hopefully suspenseful feel to it as a result.
What inspires your music most? ‘90s and early 2000s hip hop, mostly from New York. Mobb Deep, DITC, mixtapes from G-Unit, but I get amped off all the early hard stuff from the South too.
What attracts you to the underground mixtape scene coming out of New York? It’s good to hear an artist’s project untainted, the way they want it. Rappers don’t hold back and beat makers don’t need to commercialise beats. You get that raw sound especially from NY producers like Gut Nose.
What do you love about making music? It’s always fun no matter what mood you’re in and the end product usually reflects how you’re feeling, so it’s always something new. I look back on beats and remember the holiday I was on, or something that pissed me off that day…or how drunk I was. Usually the latter.
