Alt-rock trio Days Like These keep the candy-coated singles coming

Days Like These

Alt-rock trio Days Like These are keeping us on our toes with their brand new danceable pop single ‘Luna’.

The Brisbane alt-rock trio Days Like These unleashes candy-coated energy with this colourful new track. Continuing to test their boundaries of the alternative world, Brisbane alternative rock trio Days Like These opt for a change of pace with the upbeat, danceable new single, ‘Luna’.

The experimental trio have been turning heads for their innovative fusion of alternative rock, metalcore and grunge since bursting onto the scene in 2018, showcasing the bands unstoppable sound with each release.

Building on the diverse plethora of sounds introduced on their EP ‘Wide Awake’ released earlier this year, ‘Luna’ is a serious summer anthem, introducing soft pop-focused sounds, alluring grooves and instantly-engaging melodies.

Grounded in classic indie rock elements such as smooth distortion and punchy drums, the genre-defying track feels and sounds silky yet abrasive. There’s a super poppy drum groove that carries you along with sugar-sweet bubblegum melodies and 70s style guitar rhythms and tones. The result is an absolute hypnotic treat with a dash of 90s spoken word thrown in for good measure.

Joining forces once again with long term collaborator Chris Lalic (Windwaker, To Octavia, The Last Martyr) on the crisp production and mixing, Days Like These hone in on their experimental flare, alternating between infectious vocals and guitar riffs that have the listener questioning what will come next.

Adding Grammy-nominated mastering engineer, Chris Gehringer (Avril Lavigne, Glass Animals, Lil Nas X) to the fold, Days Like These have crafted something unique, taking “Luna” to a whole new level.

A playful and undeniably funky track, ‘Luna’ is a quirky journey about throwing away all inhibitions and rationale for the sake of lust. It’s about doing something that you know is wrong, and can’t help but give in to temptation.

“Coming back from recording the ‘Wide Awake’ EP we were so inspired to continue writing. We had learnt so much during our time in the studio and wanted to get straight back into it,” says vocalist Callen Batson.

“We finished ‘Wide Awake’ in June 2020, and exactly one year later we finished writing our second EP. We had one song that didn’t quite fit with the rest of them, but we still felt that we had to release it as it was an avenue we hadn’t explored before yet we still felt rather comfortable in it.

“We aren’t afraid to experiment and we don’t feel limited in what we can or can’t do with our sound.”

Harnessing the electric sound and image ‘Luna’ provides, Days Like These have also unveiled the song’s vibrant music video. Overflowing with good vibes and zero inhibitions, the video challenges gender stereotypes with the Brisbane trio donning bright colours, fabulous flamboyant outfits, face makeup and classic 70s funk moves.

“We wanted the video to capture the bubbly, light-hearted vibe from the song. The video was shot by our good friend and long-time collaborator Andrew Vaughan, and we gathered a bunch of props and improvised the entire video on the day.

“We had so much fun making it and it definitely shines through in the video. Kyle Caulfield (Slowly Slowly, Between You & Me) put his warm and gentle touches in on the edit.”

Finishing the year on a high with ‘Luna’, the trio also recently announced their place alongside Starve in support of Diamond Construct on the Hit It Back tour kicking off in January before they’ll take the stage at the third instalment of Halloween Hysteria Festival in April alongside Spiderbait, Mammal, Clowns, RedHook, Gravemind and more.

A band that isn’t afraid to break the rules, Days Like These are continuing to make a name for themselves with their new infectious single. It’s catchy and danceable, and still maintains elements of the heavier Days Like These sound we’ve come to know and love over the years. With a knack for pushing the envelope, we’re sure we’ll be seeing some more genre-defying goodness in the not-too-distant future.

‘Luna’ is out now on all streaming platforms. Keep up with the latest from the band here
