This Friday July 14, The Push Pop-Up Shop invites all young people to join their music workshops, training sessions and live events. It will run over four days at Collarts, Brunswick St Campus with a variety of thrilling and instructive sessions. 2017 program includes, “Bedroom to Stage” electronic music production workshop with Japanese Wallpaper and Alice Ivy, a DIY merchandise workshop, APRA AMCOS songwriter speaks panel, Push It! Hip Hop showcase, pull apart mix workshop with multi-platinum awarded producer and engineer Jimi Maroundas, Party Collab Lab locals night event, nightly live music performances featuring sandy hsu, Yolks, Poppy, Plaza-trg, Jungle Cuffs and Lucid, social media marketing workshop, Arts Centre Melbourne School workshop and artist photoshoots at a specially set-up temporary photo studio with photographer Nikki Williams. If you must know, New Slang organised the super cool all ages gig featuring Plaza-trg, Jungle Cuffs and Marby on the last night of The Push Pop-Up Shop. New Slang is programmed and managed by an underage events team, so come along to support these committed and brilliant youngsters pushing towards introducing more young people to Melbourne’s diverse music scene. The Party Collab Lab teamed up with Leaps and Bounds Festival to present The Turnup “the ultimate all ages party” at The Laundry in Fitzroy featuring Philly, Bahdoesa and more acts to be announced. The Turnup goes down on Tuesday July 18 from 7pm, with a mixed bag of upbeat music from hip hop, trap, afro beat to house. Tickets only cost $10 from Leaps and Bounds Music Festival’s website.
There are only two Unplugged Live performances left for the year, so you better not miss this one. This Sunday July 16 The Peep Tempel’s singer and guitarist Blake Scott will be performing the band’s post-punk tunes. Their distinctive sound has successfully earned widespread critical acclaim, notably with their second album Tales (2014), and latest release, Joy (2016). Scott’s performance will be in the company of contemporary artist, Kate Beynon. Emigrating to Australia in 1974, when she was four years old, allowed her artistic self to immerse within a diverse range of illustration heritages. Beynon has found her true self when it comes to selecting the subject of her work, revolving around ideas of transcultural life, feminism and notions of hybridity in today’s world. Doors open at 2pm.
