Ali McGregor and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra take to the stage this autumn

Words by Mia Casey

For one glorious night of class, the multitalented singer Ali McGregor is hitting the stage with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Ali will be performing her internationally successful show, Alchemy, on May 26 at Hamer Hall.

Ali will return to sing with the MSO for the first time since the Performance of a Lifetime live concert in 2021 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. This concert saw crowds enthralled by Ali’s energising interpretation of Radiohead’s Creep, a testament to her ability to diversify performances and give new life to music.

Alex Turley has arranged the show and will join Ali as she takes the stage to sing her rendition of songs by popular music icons. Some artists and bands Ali will be covering include; Madonna, INXS, Salt-n-Pepa, Soft Cell and the Foo Fighters.

Alongside classic hits, Ali will perform songs from her Helpmann award-winning show Yma Sumac – The Peruvian Songbird, following her successes at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Sydney Opera House. Ali will also share her recent works from her recent shows Lorelai and The Call.

Ali has come a long way since beginning as Principal Soprano with Opera Australia. Her talents have taken her worldwide to places such as Glastonbury and Carnegie Hall.

Ali leads quite an eclectic life as she regularly performs with the Victorian Opera and Opera Queensland. She diversely joins the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and is a returning Artistic Director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. She is also known for her hit show La Clique (La Soiree) and her up-and-coming production company FLUXUS.

Ali’s divergent career is translated into her performances as she combines assorted genres into each of her shows. From Opera to Cabaret, Ali invites you to a night of finesse and fluency as tickets go live for her Autumn show this week on Thursday, February 23.
