Chapel Street

The much-loved Chapel Street Festival will return after securing $450,000 in state government funding.

It has been 20 years since the last street festival was held on the iconic strip and the next iteration is planned for late 2023. The street festival will celebrate the unique character of the precinct, with areas showcasing fashion, art, music and food.

Victorian minister for small business Jaala Pulford today announced $450,000 investment to back the return of an inclusive, family-friendly festival in partnership with the Chapel Street Precinct Association.

We are thrilled to see the Chapel Street Festival return and can’t wait to see what local businesses and the community put together. Chapel Street is absolutely iconic and a hive of cultural activity. The return of a beloved street festival after so many years will be a much welcome boost for the local community and economy.

“After more than 20 years, we are pleased to announce the long-awaited return of the Chapel Street Festival,” Chapel Street Precinct Association general manager Chrissie Maus added. “Consultation will take place in the next 12 months to ensure this provides a significant economic return for our iconic Precinct.”

Funding will help to cover the costs of running such a large-scale event, including equipment hire, health and safety officers, permits and fees, and traffic management. This builds on the recent funding for a festival to be held on High Street, Northcote with planning already well underway.
