A pop-up park on the eastern side of Elizabeth Street will appear this summer, providing a place to escape the heat and chill in the midst of the CBD.
Spanning 375 square metres, the aim is to create a small oasis to offer a reprieve from the concrete jungle surrounding it.
“The pop-up park will feature trees, planter boxes, artificial turf, and moveable furniture and will be a great location for small-scale events as well as everyday enjoyment,” said Mayor Robert Doyle.
That’s not the only green additions coming to the city, however. As part of the Urban Forest Fund, the City of Melbourne will be refreshed with over $1 million worth of green projects throughout.
As the project continues to develop, City of Melbourne are hoping to create ten tennis courts worth of green rooftops, thousands of hectares of green facades, and increased natural canopies.
Meanwhile, an entire lane of Southbank Boulevard will be refurbished with an open green space – 1.2km of new bikes lanes, public art spaces and tram tracks covered in grass.
