Drawing from the charm of 1950s Tokyo kissaten, this 10-seat Japanese-inspired listening bar tucked down a quiet Hawthorn laneway, is where sips and sounds meet.
This isn’t just another bar, it’s a carefully curated space where vintage hi-fi equipment meets rare spirits, creating the perfect environment for listening parties, private events and meaningful connections through music.

Bar Selecta in Hawthorn features three distinct spaces for different listening and social experiences.
The venue’s thoughtful design creates multiple environments within one location.
The main listening bar seats 10 for intimate, focused sessions, while the rear courtyard accommodates 20 for more social gatherings under ambient lighting and brick walls.
Coming soon, the sunroom will add another dimension with fireplace comfort and natural light, perfect for pre-dinner drinks or brand activations.

Joey Tai, established bartender at Flower Drum, one of Australia’s most revered and awarded dining institutions, and gin maker by day.
Masaki Hisaike, from Kyoto, Japan, a sake sommelier, is anchoring the venue with omotenashi-style hospitality.
Kelvin Low, founder of The Elysian Whisky Bar in Fitzroy, brings his expertise in rare spirits, whiskey and service.
Adam Ong, the operator behind Golden Monkey, whose experience spans decades of iconic laneway bars and nightclubs.
Michael and Eleena Tan, co-founders of BrandWorks Studio, the creative agency behind the concept, interior and brand concept and music programming.
