A groovy underground roller disco is going down in Collingwood this month

Words by Tom Parker

Going down as part of Leaps and Bounds Music Festival.

Time to dust your old skates off, because the Collingwood Underground Roller Disco is returning to Melbourne with its Winter Wonderland edition this month.

Taking place on Saturday July 17 as part of Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, skaters can treat themselves to everything from soul to hip hop, house and disco tracks as they glide around the rink. It will be a strictly all-vinyl affair with DJs Jimmy James, Greg Molinaro, Eddie Mac and Chris NG spinning the tunes on the day.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in Melbourne here.

If too much grooving starts to make your tummy rumble, there will be food available to chow down on, while there’s also a licensed bar to quench any skating-induced thirsts.

The team at Collingwood Underground Roller Disco have also promised a games room on the day, adding another sweet addition to an already-stacked program. And if you’ve grown out of your old skates, don’t stress, as skate hire will be available at the event.

The venue for the roller disco is the underground carpark at the Collingwood commission housing in Harmsworth Street. Through the event, the Collingwood Underground Roller Disco team aim to break down social barriers and use the profits to invest back into the community on the estate. The event is fully accessible but if you have any access enquiries or requirements, contact the Roller Disco team on Facebook.

Collingwood Underground Roller Disco – Winter Wonderland takes place on Saturday July 17 from 3pm-11pm at 44 Harmsworth Street, Collingwood. All tickets available on the door. More info here.
