Battle 8 looked pretty epic this year, what was your 2016 experience like?
Pretty intense to say the least. The fact that we went up against good friends in the first round was a bit of an advantage as we knew what to expect and what their weaknesses would be. The same certainly couldn’t be said for later rounds but that first win really built our confidence to take on all comers. The final round was pretty nerve wracking but hearing our name as the winners made it all worth it. We’ve certainly been enjoying Sundays in bed again.
What does it take to win Battle 8?
We went into it with more of a traditional “Sound Clash” approach rather than a DJ battle, so it was more about bringing as much hype to every round as you can to win over the crowd. Getting personal with Dubplates, plenty of champagne and a pair of Rebook Classics.
One Puf burst onto the scene in 2013. Tell us about how it came into being.
The idea behind One Puf started around mid-2013 at the time when there weren’t a lot of opportunities to play the genres of music the crew were pushing. In response, One Puf was born. We started out doing a monthly bar gig in the city. The brand rapidly grew from there, which then lead to hosting our parties in Melbourne’s most primed night spots.
To date, we brought the likes of Stormzy, D Double E, Wookie, Oneman, DJ EZ and Pinch among others to club-goers of Melbourne and also got invited to play at this years Listen Out festival. With no signs of slowing down, One Pif is moving forward into 2017 with more exciting events and acts and also our first release from our highly anticipated record label with music from the crew and friends.
