Backo and Sophia J Smith open The Toff’s free Halloween on 31 October, with a club night chasing it.
The venue has split the night into two free rooms and stacked them back to back. Halloween Early goes first, a live set with Backo headlining and Sophia J Smith also on the bill, doors at 8:30pm. Entry costs nothing, but you will want to lock in a spot through Moshtix before you turn up. Backo is a Melbourne indie artist, and this one is a Halloween special rather than a stop on a tour.
Both shows sit upstairs on the second floor of Curtin House, in the art-deco room Melbourne knows for its private train-carriage booths.

The Toff runs live music early and DJs late most weeks, so a split Halloween bill is close to a normal night there, only doubled and free. Curtin House stacks the Toff above Cookie and the Rooftop Bar, so the building keeps running late either way, Halloween or not.
Halloween Late belongs to Sleazy Little Thing, the promoter behind a long run of nights in the Toff band room, and its Halloween City club night. DJs Hell Slaywood and Michael Badger take the decks for an indie sleaze set built around Vice City, a neon 80s-Miami look, with Miami Vice projections across the room and drink specials and giveaways running all night. Free entry again, with RSVPs open through Moshtix.
You can take one room or both, since the live set runs into the club night without you leaving the building. Doors for the early show open at 8:30pm, the DJs pick it up after, and the whole night runs on RSVPs rather than paid tickets.
