Melbourne Museum is opening spooky season with a red carpet, a costume comp and a very adults-only dancefloor.
Halloween at the Museum: The Haunted Gala and Scienceworks After Dark: Science in the Shadows are kicking off spooky season.
Both events are 18+ and swap daytime crowds for costumes, cocktails and a bit of after-hours mischief. Halloween at the Museum: The Haunted Gala is a first-time affair at Melbourne Museum, while Scienceworks After Dark: Science in the Shadows takes over the Spotswood venue earlier in the month.

What’s on at Halloween at the Museum: The Haunted Gala
Guests are encouraged to rock up in costume and walk a red carpet before heading into the galleries once the sun’s gone down.
From there, the night is set up like a promenade, so you can wander between live music, DJ sets and a central dancefloor, while performers in character pop up around the building.
There’s also a candlelit corner where tarot and palm readers do their thing, plus talks from Museums Victoria science experts about the weird and macabre corners of the natural world.
Halloween origin storytelling is on the program too, along with a costume competition with prizes and plenty of spots for photos.
Themed cocktails and canapés will be served, though what’s included depends on your ticket type, and paid bar options are available.
The Full Moon Package adds a wristband that covers a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all night, as well as extra premium experiences.
What’s on at Scienceworks After Dark: Science in the Shadows
Over in Spotswood, the after-hours session includes entry to Colour: See the World in a New Light, along with one Planetarium show. You’ll pick your session time when you book.
Roving performers Mr Marmalade and Becky Bubble will wander the gallery spaces, and The Apocalypse List planetarium show runs at 6:30pm, 7:15pm, 8pm, 8:45pm and 9:30pm. Creepy Keyrings is a craft activity in the STEM Lab from 6 to 9:30pm.
The Museum of the Moon, Sportsworks and Think Ahead exhibitions will be open from 6 to 10pm, and there’s a photo booth for the evidence. Cocktails, snacks and live entertainment are part of the night, with food and drinks available to buy.
Costumes aren’t required, but they’re welcome.
