Dara Ó Briain is bringing Re:Creation to Melbourne this November

Words by staff writer

Dara Ó Briain brings his new show Re:Creation to Melbourne this November as part of a run across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Dara Ó Briain hasn’t toured Australia since 2019, and Re:Creation marks the return of one of the more reliably quick comics working the international circuit. The Melbourne date puts him at Hamer Hall in early November, one stop on a tour that also takes in New Zealand and Singapore.

Ó Briain has spent more than 20 years building a reputation on improvised crowd-work, the kind of show where a decent chunk of the night is spun out of whoever happens to be sitting in the front rows. He’s best known to a lot of viewers as the long-running host of Mock the Week, though the live shows are where the crowd-work really runs loose.

Re:Creation follows his last tour, So, Where Were We?, which the promoter says played 173 venues across 20 countries and picked up a UK comedy tour of the year nod. The new show leans back into what he does best: standing on a stage, telling stories and letting the room take him somewhere unplanned.

Alongside the touring, Ó Briain has a long list of television credits, from hosting The Panel in Ireland to a run of science and panel programmes in the UK. He’s also written books for both adults and children, which is not the usual side hustle for a stand-up.

The Australian and New Zealand dates sit under the wider Just For Laughs Sydney banner, part of a cluster of international comics making the trip out this November. For Melbourne, though, the Hamer Hall show is the one to circle.
