VSPY VSPY are touring songs they haven’t touched live in 35 years

Words by staff writer

VSPY VSPY are reissuing Harry's Reasons and A.O. Mod. TV. Vers. on coloured vinyl and playing both in full across five dates.

Releasing two albums in one year is bold; charting with both is showing off. VSPY VSPY managed it in 1986.

The band put those two records out months apart. Harry’s Reasons arrived on Midnight Oil’s Powderworks label in February, raw, political and shaped by the inner-city Sydney squat scene VSPY VSPY called home.

A.O. Mod. TV. Vers. followed in December on WEA, spawning the single Don’t Tear It Down, a gold award and a number 12 national peak. The band recorded across more than a decade, much of it politically charged, yet almost none of that catalogue has been available physically for years.

Presale access opens 7 July at 4pm local time, with general tickets from 9 July at 10am local time. Brisbane runs a separate presale for Sunnyboys and 4ZZZ subscribers from 8 July at 10am, and that show pairs the band with Sunnyboys and The Clouds.

VSPY VSPY have shared stages with The Clash at the Capitol Theatre and U2 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Bloxy has pulled together a band to play both albums in full alongside the hits, and a handful of these tracks haven’t been performed live in 35 years.

A limited VIP upgrade at each show gets you into soundcheck, then time with the band to ask questions and have any BYO memorabilia signed, whether that’s VSPY VSPY, Skyhooks, Angels or otherwise. Both albums are also being reissued on limited coloured vinyl, the only recordings from that period to get a modern pressing. Pre-orders are open at harryaomod.com.au, shipping from 2 October, with orders closing 31 July.
