The Prince Bandroom lights up in July with Irish folk music, grunge nostalgia, a K-pop party, and a celebration of 00s pop queens

Prince Bandroom

St Kilda’s Prince Bandroom has a reliably mega stash of events coming up in July.

Irish folkie Dan McCabe returns to Melbourne for his biggest show to date, US tribute act Nirvanna will perform Nevermind in full, DJ HAYLZ will be playing all your favourite pop queens of the 90s and 00s, and K-pop gets its flowers courtesy of the Gnarly dance party.

Looking for somewhere to keep your limbs moving during July? There’s no better location than The Prince Bandroom.

Fun fact: Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Crazy in Love, Blu Cantrell’s Breathe, Britney Spears’ Toxic and Hilary Duff’s So Yesterday were all released in the same year. What year? 2003. It was a fruitful era for pop excellence, with the likes of Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez, Natasha Beddingfield, Vanessa Carlton and Nelly Furtado putting out some of their best work in the surrounding years. All these acts and many more will be getting a spin at the So Yesterday pop party courtesy of DJ HAYLZ.

Nirvana released Nevermind in September 1991. Has there been a bigger or more impactful rock album released since? Many would argue no, and the success of tribute acts like Nirvanna – from Orlando, Florida – would seem to back up that claim. Nirvanna will be in Melbourne performing Nevermind in full to mark its 35th anniversary, and following it with all the biggest and best-loved songs from elsewhere in the Nirvana back catalogue.

K-pop’s enormous popularity in Australia has been undeniable ever since Blackpink completed a sold-out arena tour in 2023. BTS will play two shows at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium next February, the same venue that hosted Twice in 2023 and Stray Kids in 2024. Further evidence of the genre’s dominance comes in the form of Gnarly, which brings DJ Thee Hot Pink to The Prince Bandroom to spin K-pop classics by Lisa, Twice, La Serrafim, BTS, Huntrix, Stray Kids and more.
