Christine Anu to headline free NAIDOC in the City concert.

NAIDOC in the City returns to Fed Square on 10 July, headlined by ARIA-winning icon Christine Anu and her daughter ZIPPORAH.

The free concert and market, presented by City of Melbourne in partnership with Fed Square and supported by Koorie Heritage Trust, follows the annual NAIDOC Week march from the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service in Fitzroy.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks five decades of NAIDOC Week as a national platform celebrating the voices, achievements, cultures and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Christine Anu needs little introduction, with the proud Torres Strait Islander artist’s powerful voice and decades-long career across music, stage and screen continuing to inspire audiences nationwide.

Joining her on the bill is her daughter ZIPPORAH, a proud Samu and Suy woman from Saibai Island who’s been finding her own voice after growing up in rehearsal rooms and venues around the country. The pair will perform separate sets, each bringing their own flavour of storytelling and culture to the Fed Square stage.

The rest of the lineup is just as stacked, with sets from Dungala Baimi, Yuloo Dance Group, Bumpy, Crooked TP & Brothers In Arms, Benny Walker and LEO rounding things out across the afternoon. Doors-to-close, there’s barely a quiet moment programmed in.

Beyond the music, Koorie Heritage Trust’s Makers Market is back with more than 20 First Nations-owned stalls slinging art, jewellery, clothing, gifts and homewares.

Stallholders include Bronwyn David, Gunuwarra, Haus of Dizzy & Haus of Ziggy Lee, Jazzy Skye Design, Kevin Williams Art Gallery, Lovett Homestead and Made by Minty.

The AFL will set up an interactive handball activation with competitions and prizes for all ages, plus the chance to meet Indigenous AFL players on the day. Bianca Easton will run free weaving workshops for a hands-on family activity, and the food and drink lineup includes Ngarrgu Djerring – Killara, a donation sausage sizzle from SES Victoria (all proceeds to Ngwala), and Ngwala’s ever-popular coffee van pouring free coffee, tea and hot chocolate all day.
