60 Seconds With… Doc Holliday Takes The Shotgun

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Surfy blues ass grooves for your mind to melt through!! Our singer is a really confident dancer so he often gets off stage and spins people when he isn’t on the mic. We love to party, come party with us!

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

We have our latest single Aokigahara and b-side disc to give out. It’s the first single to be released off an 8 track LP we’re gonna put out in August.  We also have our Boothill EP that has some of our earlier tracks on it.

When’s the gig and with who?

We’re doing Yah Yah’s this Saturday May 3 with our mates The Stiffys, then the Public Bar at 2am later that night and The Evelyn Hotel on the Sunday May 4.

So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

“Dude what the fuck is this band even? Why is the singer in the crowd? Why is the bass player jumping on the drum kit? I have not mentally prepared myself for this level of entertainment.”

Tell us about the last song you wrote.

Our latest single Aokigahara (ow-key-gahara) is a heaps smokey/creepy surf number. We were half way through writing the song when me and Jack (our singer, my brother) got heaps baked and watched this gnarly Vice documentary on Japan’s suicide forest; Aokigahara (Sea of Trees; literally translated). They interview the forests ranger who is a total hero, His job is to walk around the forest convincing people not to kill themselves!

When, and why did you start writing music?

When I was 15, because all my friends we’re doing it and it looked like a shit tonne of fun!

Where would you like to be in five years?

Back in the womb hopefully. Nah just playing, we’d really like to have played in Japan and put out a few albums overseas as well as touring Europe and/or America. Five years is a really hectic length for foresight though. I don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow man. I think I have a flight to Melbourne.

How do you stop your pre-gig jitters?

I’m a pretty spastic/energetic person, like once we play a gig I’m moving around or dancing for the rest of the night so if I’m nervous before a show I try to bounce around as much as I can. I talk to random people to try and take my mind off it. I don’t really get nervous too often though, unless there’s a girl I’m keen on or industry people around I guess.

How do you balance making and playing music with your other commitments?

With fear and resentment.

Anything else to add?

We love Melbourne! This will be our second time playing shows in Melbourne and we can’t wait to come back, so come say hey to us as we want more friends in our cooler brother city!
