What’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?
I’m Alex from Drown This City and I am the vocalist.
What do you reckon people will say you sound like?
Probably a pterodactyl cross choir girl. In terms of our music, we have a lot of shit going on so maybe metalcore minus any good guitar solos, post-hardcore with too much synth. Think Crossfaith meets Otep.
What do you love about making music?
It’s the best release of all time. Unleashing feelings, angst, messages, creating energy that matches up with four of your best friends, then having that come together to give you chills and you get to jump on stage and share that. There’s nothing like it.
What do you hate about the music industry?
The competitiveness and hatred between bands and musicians. People don’t seem to know how to be happy for each other and feel entitled to a success they don’t own or haven’t worked for. There’s plenty of opportunities to go round, and tearing others down won’t make your band better, it just makes you a shit person.
What can a punter expect from your live show?
Good vibes, we just have fun. Sometimes hectic, sometimes chill. I like to engage and interact with the crowd if I can, so don’t expect to walk out unscathed.
