60 Seconds With… Dan Parsons

danparsons.jpg

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

The band name is Dan Parsons and I am the singer, songwriter, guitarist and occasional multi-instrumentalist and producer/ engineer.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

James Taylor, Ryan Adams, Don McLean.

What do you love about making music?

Bringing a mood or feeling to life out of thin air.

What do you hate about the music industry?

The way young artists (mostly) can get led astray from developing their natural skill set to focus more on becoming a marketable commodity. Age-old story, I suppose.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

I would love to go back to the early ‘70s and show Linda Ronstadt some songs. In a perfect world she’d decide to cut a version and it’d be a hit. To jam with Levon Helm would be ace too.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

It would have to be Neil Diamond, only because of his performance on The Last Waltz. Actually, Neil’s okay, but he shouldn’t have been in that film/ concert.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Stories, clear vocals, great band, intimacy and swagger.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

My last self-titled album that came out in 2013.

Dan Parsons is playing at The Workers Club on the Thursday May 21 with Steve Grady and Brooke Russell.
