So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?
Big Seal and The Slippery Few – Sing and play guitar.
Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?
The confused love child of Jack White and Emmylou Harris.
What do you love about making music?
I love it when a song you write, which means one thing to you, resonates with someone else for completely different reasons.
What do you hate about the music industry?
The music industry is in a state of transition at the moment and many of the things I hate about the music industry, from the last twenty years or so, are actually starting to dissapear, which I think is great. Things like the homogenisation of popular music, the importance of image, the major record companies theft from artists and their control over what gets airplay. The institutions behind all of that mess are crumbling and being left behind. The internet has levelled the playing field and emerging technologies, such as facebook, bandcamp, tunecore and spo-tify make it easier than ever before to get your music out there. But no one is hold-ing your hand anymore and to get any traction you have to put in your ten thou-sand hours and make something worth listening too. I think this can only be good for music.
If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?
Johnny Cash. Because he’s Johnny Cash!
If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?
Assassination is a big call, but I think if you took Dr Luke out of the picture a whole lot of the garbage that has been released in the last ten years wouldn’t have happened.
What can a punter expect from your live show? A damn good time! What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?
Our new Devils Cup EP.
When’s the gig and with who?
Thursday December 8 with Joe Forrester and Beautiful Change.
