Conducted by Ben Northey, Christian will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Violin Concerto, originally to be performed in September. The concert will also feature an impressive repertoire of some of the biggest names in classical music: Holst (The Planets: Jupiter), Elgar (Enigma Variations), Tchaikovsky (The Nutcracker Suite, Violin Concerto) and Beethoven (Symphony No.6), culminating in Ravel’s Boléro.

Melbourne-born Christian Li has captivated audiences around the world since he became the youngest-ever Junior 1st Prize-winner of the 2018 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition at the age of 10. In 2020, he became the youngest artist ever to sign with Decca Classics, and the youngest violinist to professionally record Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, performed with the MSO.

The recording was recently nominated for Best Classical Album at the 2021 Aria Awards, making Christian the youngest ever ARIA nominee.

MSO Managing Director Sophie Galaise congratulated Christian on his phenomenal success and wished him well for the upcoming ARIA Awards, to be held on 24 November.

“As the MSO’s Young Artist in Association, Christian is a valuable member of our artistic family,” said Galaise. “With his remarkable talent and dedication, Christian has become an inspiration to young musicians as well as more established players in awe of his musicianship. We are thrilled to have Christian in our extended family and are delighted that he will be returning to live performances with the MSO at the upcoming Classical Hits at the Bowl concerts.”
