The new Nails album You Will Never Be One Of Us is out now and it absolutely shreds. The cult hype is justified and everyone should get amongst it. Marshall stacks turned up to 11 with no subtlety or holding back to speak of. There’s less of a grindcore influence than their previous releases but the band has sacrificed nothing in the sonic brutality department. They’re easily one of...

On behalf of High Tension’s Karina Utomo: “First show with Deafheaven and Hope Drone on Friday night was well-attended by a diverse and discerning audience; I felt that sense of celebration of a cross-section of metal. I am disheartened to address that it was overshadowed by a shitty incident and sadly one that is not an anomaly. A member of the audience was groped by another member...

I've always thought that Afroman's 2001 hit, Because I Got High, would make a great straight edge hardcore song. Chronicling the story of self-destruction and misery solely attributed to drug abuse, the lyrical content would easily be at home on any Minor Threat or Earth Crisis record. The first band to send me a straight edge hardcore cover of the track will receive first prize of a...

Everyone needs to check out Uncle Geezer. Imagine if three dudes met at a Launceston skate park, bonded over an appreciation of bongs and grindcore, thought of some funny song names and then actually put a band together. If you can still find it, get their split tape with Sydney noisecore legend Michael Crafter. It’s an absolute belter. The boys have managed to put their beers and...
