The band’s fourth studio album, Present Tense, was created during the worldwide lockdown that characterised the last two years. As the four members of Yumi Zouma live in separate parts of the world – including New Zealand, London and New York – long-distance writing has always been an intrinsic part of their song writing process. Vocalist Christie Simpson describes Present Tense as “a gallery wall displaying these different moments in each of our lives. A process of curation, revisiting the past and making it relevant to the present.”

“This is our fourth album, so we wanted to pivot slightly, create more extreme versions of songs,” guitarist Charlie Ryder says. “Working with other artists helped with that, and took us far outside of our normal comfort zone.”

In this way, the album is a testament to the friendship and creative bonds sustained throughout a tumultuous and unstable period of time for the music industry. Indeed, written in the album’s liner notes is this inscription: “To 2020, and the memory of all that was lost, Kia Kaha.”

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 12pm, Friday April 22. For complete ticket and tour information, head here.
