With over 1.8 million US copies sold and over 1 billion streams to date, the influence of Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue is substantial, defining the band as anthem makers for a generation of heavy-hearted. Armed with singles such as Only One, Breathing, Way Away and, of course the title track Ocean Avenue, the album was a breakthrough for the band in 2003 and has become a landmark album of the pop-punk and alternative rock sphere. Ocean Avenue appears at the top end of the anthems that made up the ’emo’ movement and continues to grip listeners with its infectious hooks.
In the same vein Motion City Soundtrack and Plain White T’s hooked into the same audience in the early 2000s. Whilst Minneapolis 5-piece Motion City Soundtrack formed in 1997, the band have been captivating fans with their energetic blend of emo/pop-punk and indie for decades and hit primetime in the early 2000’s with hits Everything Is Alright and The Future Freaks Me Out from respective albums Commit This To Memory (2005) and I Am The Movie (2003). Following a ten year hiatus, the band are back!
Everyone will remember the huge hit Hey There Delilah from Plain White T’s. Coming out the same year as Motion City Soundtracks Everything Is Alright, the song quickly escalated through the charts -hitting the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and receiving two Grammy nominations. The band have since amassed over 2.7 billion streams, collected several Platinum-plus and Gold certifications across their impressive catalogue, and seen praise from the likes of TIME, Billboard, ESPN and Rolling Stone. This will be their first appearance in Australia since Soundwave in 2008!
“It has taken us a long time to sort out bringing the 20th anniversary of Ocean Avenue to Australia, but we promise it will be worth the wait! This lineup is so good and we can’t wait to reconnect with our fans down under,” says Yellowcard.
Pre-sale tickets for the tour will be available via Destroy All Lines from 5pm AEDT on the 10 December, with general on-sale available from 9am local time on the 12 December. More information can be found here.
