Making its return to Adelaide’s Botanic Park next year, WOMADelaide has released the first slab of acts set to take the stage for the 2019 instalment of the festival. Spanning 14 countries, offering a buffet of artists hailing from across the globe, the lineup boasts a whopping 19 acts for you to feast your eyes and ears on.

Angelique Kidjo leads the lineup and will be treating attendees to the Australian premiere of her re-imagining of Talking Heads’ classic album Remain in Light. Joining Kidjo, you’ll find the likes of Afropsychedelic outfit BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) and Texan trio
Khruangbin.

On the homegrown front, John Bulter Trio make their return to WOMADelaide for the first time in over a decade to premiere their latest album Home, as well as fellow Australian acts the 35 piece Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir and Tkay Maidza. Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe – an 18-piece children’s choir – will also be offering their vocal talent, singing the traditional songs of Taiwan’s Paiwan villages.

You can also expect to see international supergroup Silkroad Ensemble, India’s Amjad Ali Khan performing with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Cuba’s La Dame Blanche, Madrid’s Maria Pages and a whole stack of international talent. Better yet, this is just the tip of the iceberg as the full lineup is yet to be announced.
