What’s coming to streaming services

Netflix

As the market leader, Netflix is never a stranger to being full of content for everybody, each month adding a variety of movies and shows to keep everyone happy. February is no exception, there’s some great comedies, music docos, and a whole lot more.

Murderville

Netflix ANZ will be getting a killer new comedy series from Arrested Development star Will Arnett about a detective trying to solve a (fake) case each episode, who’s joined by a variety of famous faces who must improvise their way through helping him find the murderer. It includes master improvisers like Kumail Nanjiani and Conan O’Brien, as well as talented actors like Sharon Stone and Annie Murphy. It’ll be hitting Netflix this Thursday, February 3.

Jeen – Yuhs

There’s no doubt that if you’re reading this, you’re a music fan, so Netflix has something cool for you on February 16. The polarising star who was once known as Kanye West has a doco coming out called Jeen-Yuhs. It covers the rapper from his early days to his 2020 Presidential campaign, and all the newsworthy moments in between. It makes its way to Netflix Wednesday Feb 16, and comes in three parts.

Disney+

Disney+ rarely fails to deliver high-quality content. With partnerships covering production companies like Marvel, Fox, and National Geographic, even if you’re an adult, even if you’re not a superhero fan, they can keep you occupied for hours.

Pam and Tommy

It was the entertainment story that sorta changed the world back in the 90s: Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s infamous sex tape.

It’s been given the miniseries treatment thanks to the dream team of Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, who have been at the helm of such projects like Bad Neighbours. It’s got two terrific actors leading it, Sebastian Stan and Lily James, who transform themselves so well, you’ll think you’re watching the real thing. The first two episodes hit Disney+ on Wednesday, February 2.

The King’s Man

It might’ve only just been in cinemas, but at the end of Feb, you can catch The King’s Man on Disney+. It features talented actors like Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arteton, and Alexandra Maria Lara, so you know it’ll be a great watch. It’s the prequel to the popular Kingsman movies series. It comes to Disney+ on Feb 23.

The Proud Family

If you’re looking for something the whole family can watch, The Proud Family is the show for you. It’s a follow up from the popular Disney Channel show we all watched back in the day of the same name. It continues telling the story of the trials and tribulations of Penny Proud, the daughter of the titular family. It comes to Disney+ on February 23.

Stan

Aussie run Stan has always been popular; it was the first streaming service to offer iconic sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld, before it lost them both to Netflix. As the homegrown alternative to the international monoliths, it’s always worth checking out what they’ve got in store.

Bel Air

It’s the reboot that nobody asked for, but based on the trailer alone, it has the makings to be one of the best shows of 2022. Bel Air is a replica of the popular sitcom of the same name, but it’s a version that is dark, gritty, and serious. With Will Smith behind the scenes, be prepared to see a great show the honours its predecessor but also tries something cool and interesting. It hits Stan on Feb 14.

Billions – Season 6

If you’ve been enjoying the world of financial fraud hitting our screens over the past few years, you don’t need to wait any longer for your next installment, with the newest season of Billions hitting the Stan service on Feb 6. It follows on from the departure of Damien Lewis’ character Robert Axelrod in Season 5. It hits Stan on Feb 5.

Binge

Picking up on the coat-tails of Foxtel and Amazon Prime shopping subscriptions, Binge and Amazon Prime Video are often not the first choices for Australians and streaming, but the pair still have some killer content that is worth checking out this February.

A Quiet Place Part II

It’s rare that a sequel to an extremely well-received movie would be this popular, but such is the talent of the brain behind the movies, John Krasinski. The story continues as we’re once again join the Abbott family as they deal with the life-altering moments from the first instalment. Topping off the already star-studded cast, the group are joined by Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy. It hits Binge on Feb 11.

Amazon Prime Video

Phat Tuesdays

Phat Tuesdays tells the story behind the Phat Tuesday comedy showcase at the popular Comedy Store, one of Los Angeles’ most iconic comedy theatres. This weekly event helped the launch the careers of the most famous Black voices in America. The documentary features icons like Snoop Dogg, Tiffany Haddish, Regina King, and many more. It makes its way to Amazon Prime Feb 4.

What’s coming to Melbourne cinemas

Belfast

There’s almost nothing that feels fancier than watching a black and white movie in 2022, and with a stellar cast featuring actors like Jamie Dornan and Catorina Balfe at the helm, you know it’ll pull you in. It’s based in Belfast in the 1960’s, and involves the family caught up in issues at the time. It hits cinemas on Feb 3.

Blacklight

Love him or hate him, Liam Neeson knows how to play an alpha male/lone wolf character well. Which is exactly what we get in Blacklight, where Neeson plays a Government operative that finds out something has gone awry in his organisation. It’s also intriguing to note that Blacklight was one of many movies filmed in Melbourne over the 2020 lockdown. It hits cinemas Feb 10.

Studio 666

Everyone’s favourite rockers The Foo Fighters can add something new to their already stacked CV’s, movie stars. It’s a full feature length film featuring the group recording an album, when the studio is overrun by some scary stuff, it’s a grotesque horror flick, but it’s apparently set to be some great viewing. On top of the five pieces, it also features cameos Whitney Cummings, Will Forte and even Lionel Richie.
