We’re teaming up with Australia’s best artists to soundtrack your late-night trips

We’re teaming up with Public Transport Victoria to bring you the Night Network: Up-Late Playlists – a series of artist-curated mixtapes, offering a first-hand insight into your favourite acts’ late-night tunes.

It comes in light of the newly launched Explore the Night campaign for the Night Network. Think of it as your go-to travel connection between whatever venues you want to explore – running all night to multiple corners of Melbourne. It’s good for the environment, and it’s good for your bank balance too.

The whole crux of Explore the Night is to celebrate Melbourne for the vibrant, 24-hour city that it is. Our entire city is spoiled for choice with gigs, theatre, art, and some of the best culinary and bar experiences in Australia to keep punters entertained into the small hours of the morning – especially on the weekend.

Luckily for us, Melburnians don’t need to stress about getting home if they feel like enjoying a nightcap after a show (and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you?) The Night Network offers all-night transport on Friday and Saturday nights, so you can enjoy the best of Melbourne while getting around or getting home safely – even if you’re trekking in from the outer suburbs.

It means you’ll never need to worry about leaving a gig early on Friday or Saturday night make the last train, or have to choose between spending your money on one last cocktail as opposed to a hefty cab fare.  Transport options include Night Trains running every 60 minutes on all lines except Stony Point and Flemington Racecourse, the Night Bus covering 21 routes every 30 to 60 minutes, and the Night Tram running every 30 minutes on routes 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109. You can even travel for free if you’re venue-hopping in the city’s Free Tram Zone.

Each Up-Late playlist explores top-tier Aussie artist’s connection to Melbourne’s music scene and hallowed venues – unfolding over 30 handpicked tracks that will be rolled out weekly.

What’s more, every Up-Late playlist offers the perfect chance to soundtrack your travel experience. Want to keep riding the high you’re feeling after that killer gig at The Forum? Let Bliss N Eso program your tunes. Want to wind down after a high-octane rock show on the trip home? Tash Sultana has you covered. They’re just the first two artists we’ve got in store for you, with even more exciting surprises to come.

“It’s great to see PTV getting involved in music and giving Melbourne audiences the opportunity to get around all night on weekends and see the vibrant 24-hour city and Melbourne’s exciting live music and gigs,” said Bliss N Eso.

We couldn’t agree more.

Melbourne is bursting with late-night experiences every weekend – from sport, to music, and everything in between. Get out there and enjoy it, knowing you can get home easily and safely, all with a soundtrack from some of our country’s best artists. After all, the night was made for exploring.
