What’s your favorite band memory? We were chatting about this the other day actually. Recording our first EP definitely stands out. It was a lot of band firsts which really got us feeling like we were doing the whole band thing. We drove to and stayed in Sydney for three weeks in a shifty hotel across from a Centrelink and methadone clinic. Drank heaps of beers at night, and recorded music during the day.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received? Head of Warner Music once said to us “Fake it ‘til you make it.” Cliché’ as, but still relevant to any artist out there hussling for a break.
What is the best show you ever played? Warped Tour 2014 in Australia was killer. Playing and hanging out with the bands I grew up listening to as a kid was a blast.
Funniest/strangest fan moment. A fan once brought their injured cat to a show and got us to sign its “cat cone” (plastic thing around its neck that stops it from licking its wounds).
What’s the best part about making music? Touring and connecting with fans who have related to our music.
And the worst? The industry’s lack of professionalism and lack of support for artists. This made everything harder than it needed to be, and made everything an uphill battle. We worked with heaps of great people, but even more terrible people, and that sucks.
Now that Masketta Fall is finishing up, what’s next?Myself and Moli are about to launch a management consultancy and social media company. It’s tough to forge a career in music, so we want to give guidance to help others do just this and move their careers forward.
Pick one song that sums up your career. Golden – a track of ours about doing what you want. This song reflected a lot about what we stand for – stick to your guns, run your own race, and you will kick arse at what you do.
Finale shenanigans- what can fans expect? Lots of good vibes. We’re proud of the success and experiences we’ve had in our five years as a band. It’s a celebration for us. Also plenty of tequila (my fave).
What’s your legacy? How do you want to be remembered? We started out as a bunch of high school friends who wanted to play music. We did that, worked hard, and had a great time doing it. Our message has always been do what you want, work hard and you will succeed – and we hope we’ve shown that.
