Vikki Thorn announces debut Australian solo tour

Vikki Thorn’s newest collection of songs show that she has her feet planted and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Fronting her own trio, Thorn performs with Heath Cullen and The Waifs’ bassist Ben Franz at three locations in Victoria. All part of her debut Australian solo tour that stops at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Thursday March 15 as well as Castlemaine and Mornington Peninsula also in March.

Thorn manages to combine humour and heartbreak in her most recent works. Drawing on the harshness of Hell’s Backbone in Utah, she pulls inspiration and creates a beautiful landscape. It’s a long way away from the fishing camps of Western Australia that regularly appear in her songs. Themes of movement, motherhood and motocross weave their way into her country blues, moving away from The Waifs folk sound and towards old R&B.

After 25 years of singing and touring in The Waifs, Thorn found has found her voice. Known for her mighty vocals and blues harp playing, she is a vibrant and passionate performer who has sung with Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, Paul Kelly, John Butler and Missy Higgins.
