Culte’s dreamy lo-fi pop is reminiscent of the days one spends in their teens, lazily sitting around the house and listening to music. After the release of their debut EP Goodnight, the youthful four-piece have made waves in Melbourne’s indie-pop scenes.
‘I Don’t Wanna’ is the final song off Culte’s recent six-track EP, and the band have revealed its accompanying video clip starring lead singer Yura Iwama.
The video features hazy clips of Iwama as she traverses supermarkets, cemeteries, op shops and alleyways. The light-hearted video reflects her personality as she playfully transforms dull locations into something whimsical and dreamy; these scenes become the perfect props for Culte’s bedroom-pop explorations.
The song itself discusses the emotional drudgery of every-day life: feeling unmotivated, overwhelmed and a bit fed-up with it all. But, Iwama’s relaxed vocals, paired with a melodic guitar sequence, transcend the melancholic lyrics and create a song that’s breezy and warm.
