International heavyweights headline diverse program
The 2025 lineup features several notable international acts, including legendary Velvet Underground musician John Cale, who brings his influential sound and decades of artistic innovation to Adelaide. German artist Wolfgang Voigt will present his acclaimed GAS project, known for its hypnotic ambient textures and forest-inspired soundscapes.
From the United States comes the reunion of noise duo Yellow Swans, alongside the fascinating collaborative project LOS THUTHANAKA from artists Chuquimamani-Condori and Joshua Chuquimia Crampton. UK-based aya will present her performance piece Hexed! while electronic producer Moin will deliver their intense, genre-defying sound.
The festival also welcomes Portuguese artist Nídia, who will perform both solo and in collaboration with Italian percussionist Valentina Magaletti. UK electronic duo Raime will appear in a DJ capacity, bringing their dark, atmospheric selections to the dance floor.
Local talent stands alongside global acts
Unsound Adelaide continues its tradition of showcasing local South Australian talent alongside international headliners. Adelaide-based artists featuring in the 2025 program include Strict Face, SKORPION KING, Bibbe Zee, and xxxquisite, while Melbourne’s DJ PGZ will represent Victoria at the festival.
The inclusion of local artists reinforces Unsound’s commitment to highlighting Australian experimental music within its global context, creating opportunities for local performers to share stages with established international acts.
Multiple venues, multiple experiences
The festival structure offers attendees different experiences across its two-day program. Friday’s event at Lion Arts Factory runs from 7pm until 3am, incorporating Unsound Club in its later hours for those looking to dance into the early morning.
Saturday splits the action between two venues, beginning at Hindley Street Music Hall until midnight, with performances taking place under the venue’s iconic chandelier. The festival concludes with a dedicated closing party at Ancient World, running from 11pm until 5am and offering a more intimate setting for the final celebrations.
For those wanting to experience the full weekend, package tickets are available for both main events at Lion Arts Factory and Hindley Street Music Hall. Separate tickets can be purchased for individual events, including the club-only portion of Friday night and the Saturday closing party.
Now established as one of Adelaide’s most forward-thinking music events, Unsound continues to attract dedicated followers who return year after year for its unique programming and immersive atmosphere. The festival remains committed to presenting sounds that defy easy categorisation, creating a space where music enthusiasts can experience the unexpected in a communal setting.
