The Music of Hans Zimmer vs John Williams is making its Australian premiere at Hamer Hall on 6 September.
Melbourne’s getting one night to settle the greatest film composer debate once and for all.
The global concert phenomenon, which has already sold out venues across the UK, Ireland and Europe, lands in Melbourne for two exclusive performances — the only Australian dates on the calendar. Presented by John Foreman’s Australian Pops Orchestra and Sony Music Australia in their first-ever collaboration, a full 75-piece orchestra will perform the legendary scores that have soundtracked some of cinema’s most iconic moments.

The setlist spans decades of blockbuster filmmaking, drawing from Star Wars, Gladiator, Harry Potter, E.T., Interstellar, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and more. Conducted and hosted by John Foreman, the production pairs the orchestral performance with a spectacular lighting design built to match the scale of the music.
Beyond the music itself, the show leans into the rivalry between its two subjects. A playful competitive thread runs through the performance, with audiences encouraged to pick a side — Zimmer or Williams — creating an interactive atmosphere that sets it apart from a traditional orchestral concert. The production has been designed as a family-friendly event, pitched at everyone from longtime symphony-goers to first-time listeners discovering these scores live.
With both a matinee and evening show available and Melbourne locked in as the sole Australian host city, it shapes up as a pretty rare chance to catch a production that has already drawn massive crowds internationally.
