Excitement surrounding the opening of the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition has reached fever pitch in Melbourne.

Excitement surrounding the opening of the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition has reached fever pitch in Melbourne. Having already sold 150,000 pre-sale tickets, the event has shattered previous exhibition ticket sales records in this country.

3,000 years in the making, it’s no wonder the exhibition has generated so much excitement. The display includes 130 rare and precious artefacts, the kind of which rarely leaves Egypt. “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs transports us to ancient Egypt through the power of stunning objects found in Tutankhamun’s tomb and also the tombs of his close relatives,” said Dr J Patrick Greene, CEO, Museum Victoria.

The event marks the first time King Tutankahamun’s treasures have been seen in Australia. Melbourne has been lucky enough to secure the exhibition’s only Australian stop so there is no excuse for not getting along and seeing these amazing artefacts first hand. The exhibition focuses on the 18th Dynasty, a 250-year period when Egypt was at the height of its power and the “Golden Age” of Egyptian artistry.

“After four years of planning to bring this blockbuster exhibition to Australia, we are excited for the Australian general public to be dazzled by Tutankhamun’s treasures,” said Stephen Flint Wood, Managing Director of IMG Arts & Entertainment. “The response from the public has surpassed expectations – as they recognize the historical significance of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The event runs from 8 April through 6 November 2011 at Melbourne Museum.
