Tropical Fuck Storm set to unleash Fairyland Codex at Melbourne’s RISING Festival

words by staff writer

Melbourne's own chaos merchants Tropical Fuck Storm have been announced for RISING Festival, bringing their searing, squall-laden rock to Forum Melbourne in a performance that promises to be nothing short of metaphysical mayhem.

Formed in the ashes of The Drones by Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin, and bolstered by the genre-warping prowess of Erica Dunn (MOD CON) and Lauren Hammel (High Tension), Tropical Fuck Storm have become one of the most unpredictable and electrifying bands in the country—perhaps the world.

Now, Tropical Fuck Storm are storming back on stage with a new album in tow: Fairyland Codex. It’s a record that, according to Dunn, doubles as “an anthem of resistance for all left with a beating heart to scoop themselves out of the bubble bath of social malaise and backyard domineering to perceive the ticking clock of reality square in the face before we are all left to eat Levis scraps like fruity loops in bowls of printer toner and orangutan juice.”

If that sounds like a fever dream manifesto—good. That’s exactly the point.

Known for their confrontational sound and confrontationaler politics, TFS’s live shows are part sermon, part psychic purge. Expect feedback-drenched freakouts, howling riffs, and the kind of catharsis only a band born of collapse and chaos can deliver.

The storm is coming. Brace yourselves.
