Triple R's highly anticipated Radiothon returns this Friday, running from 6am on 16 August until 5pm on 25 September.

As the station’s most important annual event, Radiothon serves as both a celebration of the unique community that Triple R has cultivated and a critical fundraising effort to ensure the station’s continued operation.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

This year’s theme, Serving Up A Sonic Soup, perfectly captures the essence of what Triple R offers: a diverse mix of sounds and information that, like a comforting bowl of soup, brings warmth and a sense of community to its listeners. As station manager Dave Houchin explains, “Like comfort food, Triple R makes many who feel disenchanted with the media discourse elsewhere feel at home. Like a great broth, Triple R has the ability to combine disparate interests, elements, and people and serve it all up in a way that warms the cockles.”

The station has faced financial challenges in the past year, with rising expenses outpacing income in the wake of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis. Houchin is calling on Melbourne’s community to support Triple R by subscribing and donating during this Radiothon, emphasising the crucial role that listener contributions play in keeping the station independent and on air.

Radiothon 2024 kicks off with a star-studded lineup of guests and live performances. The first ten days of the campaign will feature appearances by Ben Shewry (Attica), Cash Savage, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Jen Cloher, Fiona Patten, Emma Russack, Antony Loewenstein, Romy Vager (RVG), Norman Swan, Ride (UK), and Liam Parsons (Good Morning), among others. Live performances include sets from Underground Lovers, Emily Wurramara, Cong Josie & the Hell Racers, and Sleep D.

In addition to the on-air festivities, subscribers between 16 August and 25 September will automatically enter the draw for an array of prizes, including a ten-day trip to Vietnam, a season pass to Meredith Music Festival and Golden Plains, an overnight experience at Brae Restaurant, and a $2,000 voucher for Blackhearts & Sparrows.

Triple R has been a cornerstone of Melbourne’s community media landscape since its establishment in 1976. As a not-for-profit organisation, it relies on the goodwill, hard work, and dedication of volunteers, staff, and the generosity of its subscribers, donors, and sponsors.
