Triple R's Radiothon is running until October 4.
Radiothon is Triple R’s most important fundraising period for the year. It’s when these local legends ask their listeners to subscribe and donate to show their support for the station.
Triple R is a not-for-profit, community media organisation in Melbourne, established in 1976, that runs on the goodwill, hard work, passion and dedication of hundreds of volunteers and a small team of staff, plus the generosity of subscribers, donors and sponsors who fund the station. Their subscribers have allowed us to stay on air, remain truly independent, and provide a platform for music and ideas that may otherwise never be heard.
Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.
Radiothon is also a time to celebrate the incredible community that surrounds the station, and it all kicks off from 6am Friday 25 August. The first ten days of the campaign – Friday 25 August to Sunday 3 September, features A+ guests including Dry Cleaning (UK), Cash Savage, Simona Castricum, Tony Birch, Laura Tingle, June Jones, Emma Russack, Sarah Hardiman, Tony Martin, Charlie Needs Braces and more, plus live performances from Magic Dirt, Ausecuma Beats, Liz Stringer and Martin Frawley, the return of loads of Triple R alumni, plus plenty of station shenanigans.
The entire Radiothon campaign runs until 5pm Wednesday 4 October. Of course, listeners receive more than just a gold star when they subscribe to Triple R – plenty of other benefits await. Everyone who subscribes during Radiothon will go into the draw to win an outstanding selection of prizes including a nine-day trip to Bali from Intrepid Travel, a season pass to Meredith Music Festival and Golden Plains with accommodation at The Rochester, a year’s worth of wine from Blackhearts & Sparrows, a $2,000 voucher to spend at Crumpler, and more.
There’s also the chance to attend any Live at RRR shows at the Triple R Performance Space, The Trip magazine delivered three times a year, a subscriber card for wicked discounts all across town, the iconic Triple R bumper sticker, and plenty of other perks.
This year’s Radiothon theme is: It’s Educational.
The theme is a throwback to the station’s humble beginnings, but also a reminder to all that as a station, its here providing an education, every single day.
‘Triple R emerged from RMIT in the mid 70s and holds an educational community broadcasting licence. This Radiothon we decided to pay homage to one of the station’s very first promotions, the But Mum… It’s Educational! poster by local artist, John CJ Taylor in 1979,” Station Manager Dave Houchin says.
“The amazing Tai Snaith has done a wonderful job revisiting the original concept for 2023. To me, it strongly reflects our role as a truly multigenerational broadcaster, and that while Triple R holds true to its roots, it also continues to evolve with each new generation and era of presenter and listener. Plus, it’s just beautiful!
“Radiothon falls at a time of great uncertainty for not-for-profits and registered charities like Triple R. The station’s expenses are rising rapidly, and so we need more listener subscriptions and donations this Radiothon to make our finances sustainable. Please subscribe and donate to Triple R this Radiothon at rrr.org.au, and know we truly appreciate your support!”
