The parking-lot-turned-beer-garden is set to reopen to the public just in time for the playoffs.
Perhaps one of the greatest things to come out of the hellish pandemic lockdowns, Abbots Yard has become a neighbourhood favourite in no time.
The venue has been hibernating through the winter, hosting private functions and laying low. But now that spring has sprung, they’re set for a big return on September 7.
Abbots Yard Reopens
- The North Richmond beer garden will welcome the public back in on September 7
- They’ll be offering a new menu featuring DIY charcoal-grilled skewers
- All through September, they’ll be airing the AFL finals on big LED screens
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.
Nestled into the corner of Victoria St and Nicholson St in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, the beer garden is a place for music, community and celebration. Warm up by the fire pit, catch a band or entertain yourself with one of the many games – darts, shuffleboard, pool or retro arcade games.

To celebrate the footy finals kicking off next week, the team has installed massive LED screens that’ll stream all of the action live. Don your team colours and book a table for eight – each reservation comes with a jug of Furphy and 16 skewers off the brand-new menu.
And speaking of the menu, it’s a doozy: a DIY BBQ bonanza. They’ll be dishing out skewers of meat, fish, veggies and halloumi that guests can cook up to perfection on their personal grill which will be delivered to the table along with condiments and utensils.
No matter the weather, they’ve got you sorted, with heaters, misting fans and a fully-covered rooftop. No live music has been announced yet, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s going to be a big summer season.
