1. Blur
The obsession with Blur began as a six-year-old in an attempt to be as cool as my Brit pop aficionado cousin, who was 15 at the time. I’m certain that if Damon Albarn was cryogenically frozen and woken up in 200 years he would still be able to make music that is impermeable in the face of time.
2. My Bloody Valentine
I listen to the shoegaze outfit’s iconic album Loveless almost every single day. Their pairing of insane wall and extremely emotive lyrics and melodies is simply euphoric.
3. Mazzy Star
One could only hope to be a vocalist as ethereal and mysterious as Hope Sandoval. We’ve recently started covering Fade Into You live and it never fails to get people dancing like it’s the high school prom in ’99.
4. Pixies
We recently saw Pixies live for the first time, and though Kim Deal was absent *tear*, they sounded as bad arse playing all of the songs from Doolittle as they would have in the early ‘90s. Definitely our biggest musical inspiration out of all of the ‘90s acts we love.
5. Oasis
A classic but a goodie undoubtedly. Pretty controversial to include Oasis and Blur on the same list of any kind, but we adore both. I’m watching the music video for supersonic right now and I think I’m definitely going to have to start wearing sunnies on stage. It’s decided.
