Time for a beer because pubs, bars and other hospitality can reopen from Wednesday

Words by Tom Parker

Hell yeah!

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has just announced that pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will be able reopen from midnight tomorrow. All retail will also be able to reopen.

For indoor hospitality spaces, there will be a maximum of 20 people (seated) allowed with ten people for each space. For outdoor spaces, a maximum of 50 people (seated) will be allowed with one person per two square metres.

As of now, staff will be able to attend their place of business immediately, whether it be retail or hospitality, in order to prepare for COVID-safe trading.

It comes after metropolitan Melbourne recorded its first day of no new COVID-19 cases since June. The current 14-day rolling average is 3.6 in metropolitan Melbourne while there are seven cases with an unknown source.

Another significant announcement comes in the form of the easing of the 25km travel limit. From midnight on Sunday November 8, the metropolitan Melbourne regional border will lift.
