The long-awaited album comes on the back of a recently signed deal with BMG.

Beloved Australian singer-songwriter Tim Minchin will release his debut album this year after signing a global deal with BMG.

It’s looking to be a huge year for the multi-talented musician, with an almost entirely sold-out Australian tour seeing him through March and the beginning of April before he takes to the Splendour In The Grass stage in July. It follows on from a massive 2019 which saw Minchin perform across 75 dates to 180,000 fans.

A prolific figure in TV, theatre and music, Minchin has written lyrics and music for award-winning productions Matilda the Musical and a musical adaptation of Groundhog Day, he starred in 2018’s Robin Hood and co-wrote, co-produced, starred in and composed the music for Upright, which premiered on Foxtel last year.

Despite having gifted us with his music for decades, this will be the first time his work has been collated and released as an album.

“I’ve been writing songs for 35 years, and have never released a studio album. Too many distractions,” said Minchin. “Signing with BMG has given me focus, and the confidence to aim for a record that isn’t defined by anyone else’s expectations.”

The first single from the album, ‘Leaving LA’, is due for release on Friday March 13, with the album release date yet to be announced.
