The Understudy Ski Lodge has reopened in the Melbourne CBD with a dramatic alpine-esque transformation.
The Understudy has reimagined itself as a hidden winter sanctuary beneath Melbourne’s busy streets. The venue now transports guests from the city’s energy into an intimate alpine world. Timber beams, oxblood leather and vintage alpine artwork create an authentic chalet atmosphere.
The transformation embraces old-world charm and craftsmanship. Guests enter through a hidden doorway marked by a wood log cabin door. A bronze stag door knocker serves as the only indication of what lies within. The space features moody golden lighting and plush textures throughout.

What to expect
Pine, cedarwood and subtle tobacco scents fill the air. Flickering candles illuminate dark wooden tables. Faux fur throws and cowhide accents invite guests to settle in. The Melbourne venue has been carefully layered with heritage-inspired finishes.
The cocktail menu draws inspiration from alpine regions across Europe. Winter’s Orchard combines pink lady cider with Talisker Skye. Spiced syrups and cassis create warmth in ceramic cups. Chalet Noir blends bourbon with hazelnut and chai. The drink includes stout and grated chocolate in an egg-shaped glass, wowee.
The Midnight Slope features Biscoff-infused bourbon and banana liqueur. Coffee and black walnut bitters complete this moonlit ski run inspiration. Each cocktail tells a story of winter indulgence. The drinks are meant to be savoured slowly, trust us.
The food menu matches the alpine theme perfectly. Marinated olives and premium sourdough with French butter start the journey. Oven-baked camembert with rosemary provides comfort. Curated cheese and charcuterie boards offer European authenticity.
Moroccan-spiced halloumi brings unexpected flavours to the mountain setting. Korean-style fried chicken adds contemporary appeal. Pork sliders with truffle-laced chips satisfy hearty appetites. The dessert experience feels ceremonial and nostalgic.
Rich chocolate fondue arrives with strawberries, wafers and marshmallows. The dish nods to both European ski lodges and childhood winter dreams. Each course carves its own path through the après-ski adventure.
The venue operates exclusively throughout winter season. Friday and Saturday evenings welcome guests from 5pm until late. The intimate nature ensures limited capacity and high demand. Walk-in only policy maintains the venue’s exclusive atmosphere.
The Understudy Ski Lodge creates a new kind of winter ritual. Elegance and sensory immersion define the experience. The focus remains on quality over spectacle. Guests can escape after work or enjoy romantic evenings.
The space invites visitors to slow down and reconnect. The venue serves as Melbourne’s most compelling winter destination, offering warmth against the deepening winter.
