The beloved Footscray bar and music venue will be closing for good before the end of the year.

Melbourne will soon have to say goodbye to another beloved institution as Baby Snakes has announced its permanent closure. The bar team has taken to social media to bid farewell to fans and patrons, stating it will be closing up shop on December 23.

“This is one of the hardest decisions we have had to make. This has been a wild ride to say the least and we are very grateful to the community and people that we have met on this journey,” wrote the team in a statement.

Located on the corner of Nicholson St Mall and Chambers St, Baby Snakes has been a warm, inviting venue that has offered the stage to many of Melbourne’s most exciting emerging and underground acts.

On weekends, DJs and resident artists took over the decks, while bands could often be found playing the Sunday sessions.

Owned by Mark Nelson (who also runs The Moon and Milton Wine Shop), Baby Snakes has been a lowkey, laidback gathering place in Melbourne’s west, open until late five nights a week. The menu featured an extensive wine and local beer list as well as well as cocktails and snacks.

“Thank [you] for everything. I’ll always love Baby Snakes. [You] guys made me feel at home for the last 8 months. I will never forget the impact this venue has had on myself and the west as a whole,” commented one user on the Instagram post.

Baby Snakes will remain open until December 23 and the team welcomes all those who have loved the place to pay their respects with one last month of gigs and parties.

“Until we ‘call it’ for good we would love to see all of your lovely faces for a chat and to reminisce on all the good times we have shared together. So please come have a good time with us, one last drink! One last boogie!”
