Firelight represents a significant expansion for the winter festival circuit, with organisers introducing water-based elements for the first time. The festival’s reach extends beyond the traditional land-based displays to embrace the harbour itself, creating a comprehensive sensory experience that utilises both terrestrial and aquatic spaces.
The festival extends its glow onto the water for the first time with the Light the Night Boat Display, inviting boat owners to decorate their vessels with lights and compete for the Firelight Festival People’s Choice Award.
Nearly 50 fire artists, dancers, musicians and roving performers will captivate visitors across the weekend, providing entertainment from crackling fire pits and flame jets to blazing fire arches and illuminated sculptures.
Almost 40 food trucks will serve belly-warming winter treats, from sizzling street food to seasonal favourites including s’mores and hot chocolate.
Organisers expect more than 80,000 people to attend across the three nights, delivering a $6 million boost to the local economy.
The festival promises to be the perfect antidote to Melbourne’s winter chill, combining fire-fuelled entertainment with immersive art installations and waterfront dining.
