There’s an ‘almighty rave’ coming to Royal Exhibition Building this August

Now or Never Festival
Words by Staff Writer

Last year Now or Never returned live music to the Royal Exhibition Building for the first time in more than two decades.

And now, they’re back for more. Over four colossal nights under the grand cathedral ceiling they’ve called upon international giants of music, some coming to Melbourne/Narrm for the very first time, as well as cherished local icons, including – in the festival’s own words – another almighty rave with Untitled.

Fall deeper into euphoria with hypnotic visuals and sonic adventures at a staggering scale, completely transforming the Royal Exhibition Building into a site of sensory saturation. Heavy breathing. Bodies moving. Pulses racing. Prepare to have your systems rebooted.

NONSTOP WKND: One of the biggest music weekends of the year is happening this September for Now or Never

Now or Never Festival is back for its second year – returning from Thursday 22 August to Saturday 31 August. It’s the City of Melbourne’s newest major event – exploring the intersection of art, ideas, sound and technology. Exploring the theme ‘Look Through The Image’, Now or Never promises to unlock the doors of audiences’ imagination, stirring emotions and prompting contemplation.

The expansive program will celebrate leading Victorian, Australian and international creatives at the cutting edge of digital cultures and future thinking. A dispersed festival footprint that will see events drive visitors to all corners of the city, boosting local business.

“After making an incredible debut last year, the City of Melbourne’s newest festival, Now or Never, is back in 2024,” Lord Mayor Sally Capp said.

“The inaugural festival attracted more than 150,000 people into the city – generating almost $14 million in economic impact and supporting hundreds of local jobs and businesses. Now or Never will feature leading local and international artists and creatives across a program of groundbreaking music and audio-visual performances, immersive art installations, provocative talks, spectacular technology and much more.

“We’re looking forward to revealing the compelling 2024 festival program in the coming months.”

The full Now or Never program is being revealed next Thursday, 20 June at 11am.
