There’s a circus hub in Melbourne and it’s hosting exhilarating acts for Melbourne Fringe

Studio Nexus in Preston is hosting some exhilarating circus acts for this year's Melbourne Fringe Festival, and we've got the lowdown.

Circus Nexus is a not-for-profit of circus company with an aim to expand the reach of circus throughout Melbourne.  They’re achieving this by providing a welcoming and accessible space within which absolutely anyone and everyone can learn the high ropes of circus performance. It’s incredible!

What’s even more incredible is that, throughout October, they’ll be hosting a bunch of shows in tandem with the Melbourne Fringe Festival that’ll paint an ear-to-ear smile on your face and leave you amazed. It’s a phenomenal opportunity to engage with an incredible art form whilst supporting a local community.

AAA+ for Effort

  • October 11-13, 18-20
  • For the whole family

Studio Nexus will erupt with the incredible performance of AAA+ for Effort brought to you by the Circus Nexus Performance Troupe. These guys will be showcasing every brilliant part of the circus art form at Preston’s Studio Nexus and will be bringing along different guest performers for each show. After a smashing success at last year’s Melbourne Fringe Festival, this one is shaping up to be a stunner. Tickets are now available, go nuts!

Fringe for Kids by Wildhouse Circus

  • 2 and 3 October
  • A show for the kids

As promised, Studio Nexus is for everyone. The little ones will have a special show catered to them by Wildhouse Circus, which promises to include all the amazing circus stuff like dance, drag, music, magic and comedy. It’s an interactive, entertaining show that will have its Melbourne Fringe premiere in Preston’s Studio Nexus, after successful sell-out shows in Adelaide. There’s more information and tickets here.

Safari Circus by CircArts Geelong

  • October 4

Circus! and Safari! It’s Safari Circus. With a focus on all things natural and supernatural, Safari Circus promises to bring all kinds of creatures to life in a spectacle that will feature incredible aerialists, magical lands and enchanting wildlife. This show is the first of three presented by the talented group at CircArts Geelong, and shouldn’t be missed. Grab your tickets here.

Time Travel Circus by CircArts Geelong

  • October 4 and 5
  • 12:30pm and 4:30pm

The second of three from CircArts is an enchanting walk through time, blending captivating stories with unbelievable stunts. The fine folks at CircArts really know how to host a show, and this will be no exception. The stories will range between charmingly ancient and astonishingly futuristic, providing a chance to both learn and bear witness to awesome circus stuff! Get your tickets through time here.

Affinity by CircArts

  • October 4 and 5
  • 6pm

The third and final show from the team at CircArts is the ambiguously themed Affinity. With an emphasis on empathy and understanding, this act will aim to reveal the beauty of perspective through learnt experiences and feelings. Presented by a talented young group aged between 18-22, this show will be full of heart and mesmerising ability. Level Up

  • October 4, 5, 11-13

Gravity Dolls will be hitting up Studio Nexus for an innovatively fun show all throughout October. It’ll feature three talented artists traversing the inside of a gigantic claw machine. How epic does that sound? There’s more information and tickets here.

Circus De Licious

  • October 11-13, 18-20

This will be the first of two shows presented by the folks at Express Move ME. They’re promising to bring together some of the finest talents from the global circus scene on multiple dates throughout October. There will be death-defying acrobatics and spine-tingling stunts making sure to put Preston’s Studio Nexus to amazing use. You can find some tickets here.

Swashbuckling Circus

  • October 12, 13, 19 and 20
  • Catered for all ages

Pirates will be taking over Studio Nexus! This show is calling upon all scallywags and Jolly Rogers alike to join the fun on four dates through October. Featured will be amazing acrobatics, hilarious comedy and even interactive seafaring adventures for all the little aspiring pirates. It’s another all-ages blast, meaning if the pirate industry is a dream career aspiration for your little one, this is a foot (or a wooden peg) in the door! Tickets here.

Hana Fiesta’s Disco Fiasco

  • October 12, 13, 19 and 20

Hana Fiesta is bringing back her renowned Disco Fiasco, an interactive disco-themed extravaganza that involves audience members helping Hana fix up her disco equipment. She’ll be mixing some newer disco tunes with some classics, meaning it’ll truly be fun for the whole family. Disco Fiasco will be the perfect way to liven up your Melbourne Fringe Festival for 2024, and after winning Best Emerging Artist for 2023, Hana Fiesta will be bringing her best!
