There’s a film festival dedicated to dogs happening next month

Top Dog Film Festival

Man’s best friend is the star of the show at Top Dog Film Festival.

Celebrate the heart-warming connection of canines and their humans at the Top Dog Film Festival – a two hour event that’s happening at the Astor Theatre on Sunday July 31. Honouring the bond between dogs and people, the 2022 Top Dog Film Festival will be filled with delightfully doggy moments of joy in this carefully curated program of short films.

What you need to know

  • Top Dog Film Festival 2022 is coming to The Astor Theatre
  • It’s two hour long mini film festival that’s showcasing dog-themed short films
  • Taking place on July 31 from 2pm – 4:45pm, you’d be barking mad to miss it

Keep up with the latest Melbourne film and television news here.

With the line-up in the past having included films about dog-powered sports, dogs hiking through the desert, senior dogs, dogs in space and more, you know you’re in for a tail-wagging good time.

St Kilda’s Astor Theatre is one of Melbourne’s oldest cinemas, first opening back in 1936. It’s one of Australia’s only still remaining single screen cinemas – full of that old style cinemagoing; gold curtains lace the screen, a bevy of seating across stalls and a dress circle, and even the opportunity to see a movie in old formats.

There’s a mix of the old, new and different in terms of programming; the newest release, West Side Story, classics like Parasite, and even rare movies like Gorillaz: Song Machine Live in Concert.

The Astor is one of the last independent film houses left in Victoria, the last of Melbourne’s grand old art deco film palaces, and has been in operation for 86 odd years.

You’d be barking mad to miss this event – get your tickets before they sell out by heading here.
