There’s a big free jazz crawl across Melbourne this Friday. Here’s how it works

Words by staff writer

Fed Square becomes the central hub for Night Crawl, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival's city-wide adventure on 17 October.

The event invites audiences to move between multiple venues across Melbourne, with Fed Square hosting three major acts. UK multi-instrumentalist Tenderlonious collaborates with local musicians Horatio Luna and On-Ly, while hometown heroes Surprise Chef celebrate the launch of their new album Superb. International DJ Natasha Diggs closes the night at Fed Square, bringing her genre-spanning style honed through work with Quincy Jones, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Stevie Wonder.

Night Crawl transforms the city into a sprawling music festival, letting attendees create their own path through various locations. Beyond Fed Square, the event features performances from Mindy Meng Wang and Tim Shiel, Ausecuma Beats, Ella Thompson, Alexander Flood, Sinj Clarke, Boorloo’s Grievous Bodily Calm and Aka Zeb. The programming spans nu-jazz, house, broken beat, drum and bass, funk and deep house across multiple city venues.
