The free barbecue fires up from 1pm and runs until supplies are exhausted, with vegan options available for those steering clear of the snags. DJs take over from 3pm, with Antagonize leading proceedings alongside Marjie, Token, Mikee, Jbn, Mothafunk and Dirty Abs.
Filipino-born, Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Antagonize curates this year’s lineup. A respected figure in the city’s hip hop and street dance communities, he’s become synonymous with the Orphan’s Xmas event over recent years.
Section 8 first opened in 2006 as a temporary pop-up in a Chinatown car park and never left. The graffiti-covered, pallet-seated outdoor bar operates 365 days a year, and its Christmas Day gathering has grown into one of the city’s most welcoming events for those doing the holidays differently.
